Background of the new KD-7000 series In 1999 we introduced the original KD-600 series scales. They were a huge success and we sold more than 100,000 units during their production. However there were some design issues with the original scale and many improvements were requested by consumers. Thus we set out to design a new model. We wanted to improve the scale to add all of the features and innovations that our customers had asked us for over the years.
First we applied "Basic" improvements by building our own software program and IC chips with advanced functions. We added many advanced features including: An adjustable or disable-able auto off feature. This is very important to consumers because there are times that you may want to use your scale continuously for a long period of time. If the scale was turning itself off every 5 minutes (for example), this could really interfere with your work. Other times you might want to conserve power and have the scale turn off automatically after 1 minute of use. An adjustable audible beep function. Some people want to hear a "beep" whenever they press a button as confirmation. Other people get very annoyed by this and want the scale to be silent. Thus we made our beep function with an electronic on/off feature. There is a simple switch at the back of the scale to control the beep function. An adjustable backlight function. You can choose to have the beautiful blue backlight ON or OFF. It's nice to have it on all the time, but if you are operating on battery power and want to maximize your battery life, you can turn the lights off to conserve power. A HOLD feature. We were often asked to add a HOLD feature to our scales. People complained that they would put an oversized box on the scale and couldn't read the display. So, we added a HOLD feature that holds the weight of an item on the display (simply put the box on the scale and press HOLD, then you can remove the box and see what the weight was on the display). A removable acrylic faceplate protector and splash guard. Many users of digital scales notified us that they often damage or destroy their scale by accidentally dripping foods, chemicals or solvents onto the faceplate of the scale. This either stains or damages the LCD and keypad. To prevent this we invented a new cover that lifts up to allow usage of the buttons. While the cover is lifted up, spills will run into a channel that we designed, rather then falling onto the LCD or buttons. This cover is 100% removable for people that don't want to use it or don't require it. New for late 2006 and 2007 we have added 3 soft clear secondary faceplate covers to protect the lcd and keypad in case you need to use the scale with chemicals or such on your fingers. The next improvement was in the area of Modes. Our customers had specific needs, and we needed to accommodate every postal / shipping company. Thus we made the new Ultraship read in Pounds:Ounces, Pounds, Straight Ounces, Grams, Kilograms. This is very important because in the USA some people need their scale to display 5 1/4 pounds as "5lb : 4.0oz" and some people need it to be shown as "5.250lb" or even "84.0oz". Likewise for Kilograms some people need 2.5 kilograms to be displayed as "2.500kg" and some people need it to be shown as "2500g". The KD-7000 are the standard by which all other kitchen and office scales will now be judged. There is simply no better mid-sized scale for your home, office or kitchen. NOTE: Now that we have posted this information for the whole world to read on our website, you can bet some of our smaller competitors will quickly alter their scales to read or perform in the a "similar" manner to the KD-7000. We file patents for all of our inventions including the adjustable angle display. Sadly, My Weigh is the most commonly "duplicated" and "copied" scale brand. We are the industry benchmark that most other scale companies try to model themselves after. |

Comparing the 7001DX, KD-7000 and i5000 Kitchen Scales
We have been asked many times "what is the difference between these three scales". While all three have similar capacities and similar resolution, they are very different designed scales. Picking the right one will depend mostly on your particular application.
If you are looking for a high quality kitchen scale that can also be used as a letter scale, the 7001DX is probably your best bet. That's because it comes with a large square bowl, letter holder and a mail tube holder. In addition it has an adjustable angle display that makes it easy to read the weight at almost any viewing angle. However, many people prefer the more professional appearance and Stainless Steel tray of the KD-7000. The i5000 can of course be used as a terrific kitchen/office scale but it may be considered 'overkill'; The i5000 has a professional grade 5000 division sensor and parts counting function. This makes the i5000 perfect for professional users or those that require extra durability in their scale.
At the office the 7001DX again is probably the best choice. It's letter holder and mail tube holder combined with it's other features (Hold feature, beep function, adjustable angle display, etc..) make it very well suited to any office or light shipping application.
At a professional kitchen (or for a serious Chef/Cook/Baker), the KD-7000 is likely the best choice. That's because it's large thick Stainless steel tray gives added durability and clean-ability. The taller upright design allows for easy reading and proper weighing of ingredients. The splash/spill guard and water resistant design protects the scale from mishaps that often occur during 'guerilla tactic cooking'. In addition the KD-7000 has the classic appearance of a professional cooking scale. It's important to note that tens of thousands of i5000 scales are being used by cooks, chefs and bakers worldwide. It's the top choice of many cooking schools. The i5000 is very well proven and has a loyal following. You should therefore also consider the i5000 for your application.
For 'industrial' applications (meaning soap making, candle making, home brewers, Biodiesel makers, cement mixing or other similar type applications), the KD-7000 is the logical choice due to it's integrated splash guard, SS tray and water-resistant design. The 7001DX is a bad choice for these applications because wax, powders and chemicals can get caught in the adjustable angle display or in the keys.
